Neuroscience-based method
Olga Galushko
PhD · Executive Coach, Henley Business School · Author of the OGENIUS method
I work on a single question: how people hold high ambition over years of prolonged uncertainty without destroying themselves. The answer I build with is a method — OGENIUS — that joins neuroendocrine regulation, cognitive-behavioural work, coaching and nutritional therapy into one framework, with protocols people can apply the same week.
Speaking and research enquiries
Background
Fifteen years in senior leadership and C-level roles: large teams, high tempo, decisions under pressure. In parallel, eight years of academic teaching — Associate Professor at Kyiv National Economic University, faculty on MBA and EMBA programmes at the International Institute of Business, and head of its Centre for Management and Leadership Development.
The method came out of both. I watched what sustained load does to capable people, including myself, and went to study the mechanism where it is explained with evidence: neuroscience, cognitive-behavioural therapy, coaching, nutritional therapy. OGENIUS is what those four produced when put into one working sequence.
I practise in Ukraine, where prolonged uncertainty is the baseline condition rather than an episode. That setting shapes what I study and what the method has to survive.

The OGENIUS method
OGENIUS has four verbs. Three of them are circles that overlap — Body (REGULATE), Mind (REWIRE), Energy (ACTIVATE). Sustainable Ambition appears where all three hold at once. A fourth level, OWN Your Genius, opens once that base is working.
(Body + Mind) × Energy = Sustainable Ambition
Energy is a multiplier here, not an addend. Body and Mind are capacity; Energy is the daily execution that turns capacity into a result. At zero execution the product is zero, however strong the other two.
| REGULATE | Body | REGULATE Compass | Zones of state — Resource, Overheat, Depletion. Entry point: a depleted body narrows cognition to threat response, which blocks everything above. |
| REWIRE | Mind | The 4C Method | Catch · Challenge · Change · Check. Works on the predictions the brain runs, and the beliefs that keep replaying the same scenario. |
| ACTIVATE | Energy | PACE | A weekly loop — Plan, Allocate, Commit, Evaluate — across three daily layers. PACT details the Plan step for habit formation. |
| OWN | Identity | Self-rewrite protocol | Ownership of identity, authenticity and self-authorship, from an adult position. |
Evidence base
The science underneath is not mine, and the method says so. HPA and SAM axes, allostatic load, the function curve, burnout models — these are the work of the field. What OGENIUS contributes is the selection, the integration, and the translation into instruments that hold up in use.
The OWN level rests on adult development theory (Kegan, 1994) and self-authorship (Baxter Magolda, 2001); possible selves (Markus & Nurius, 1986) and narrative identity (McAdams & McLean, 2013); autonomy in self-determination theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000) and the self-concordance model (Sheldon & Elliot, 1999).
Where the model stops
Stated plainly, because a method that hides its limits is harder to trust.
- Acute stress is adaptive. The pathology sits in chronicity and dysregulation, in a broken activation–recovery cycle.
- Individual variability is large. The method works with profiles rather than a single norm.
- A single biomarker is unreliable. Diagnosis runs on a constellation of signs.
- Much human data is observational. Wording respects the difference between association and cause.
- Polyvagal theory is contested (Grossman, 2023). The method rests on established autonomic physiology and uses polyvagal language only as metaphor, with the caveat stated.
- Burnout is a syndrome, classified by WHO as an occupational phenomenon. Its models are used as complementary lenses.
Research
Sustainable Ambition under prolonged uncertainty
The working question: what allows people to keep setting and reaching long-horizon goals when the horizon itself is unstable, and what breaks first when they cannot.
The population I work with and study is the Ukrainian corporate and entrepreneurial sector — high-functioning people carrying sustained load, where background anxiety is a constant rather than an event. Most resilience research draws on populations that return to a stable baseline. This one does not, which makes it a distinct case and a hard test for any model of goal pursuit.
In development: a structured account of the method with its evidence base, and a research programme built around it in partnership with a business school.
Speaking
Lectures and workshops for conferences, executive programmes and leadership teams. Each topic rests on research and ends with a protocol the audience can apply immediately.
| Burnout: what actually breaks | Allostatic load and the HPA axis. Why a holiday does not restore, and which signals appear months before the collapse. |
| Energy instead of time management | Where energy is actually held: mitochondria and the brain's activation systems. The PACE model — the neurophysiology of goal pursuit and resource allocation. |
| Habits under load | Why motivation does not scale. How the brain automates action, and what follows for embedding habits in a team. |
| The brain under pressure | What chronic stress does to the prefrontal cortex, and how that shows up in decision quality rather than in how people feel. |
| Sustainable Ambition | Holding a high bar over years by changing how it is held, with the bar left where it is. |
Formats: lecture 60–90 minutes · workshop 1–3 hours · programme for a team 6–8 weeks. Topics are adapted to the organisation, or built new on request.
